Availability for New Landscaping Services in 2022
Last updated: February 24, 2022
To Our Current & Prospective Clients Alike:
It’s Magic Landscape & Design has been experiencing unprecedented levels of interest for new landscaping contracts in 2022. We are enthused to see this kind of demand! Unfortunately, we have had to turn many prospective clients away due to economic factors outpacing our current capacity.
The past year (and now 2022) have been notable for historic inflation rates. This, combined with continuing labor shortages, has limited our availability to retain qualified staff. In years past, It’s Magic Landscape & Design has utilized the U.S. Department of Labor’s H-2B program to shore up seasonal labor shortages in times of high demand, such as spring and summer when landscaping services are most needed. The program is specifically designed for temporary non-agricultural labor, and applicants typically have ample experience in the type of work required. Both of these designations favor seasonal H-2B work in landscaping.
Unfortunately, the Department of Labor has not proportionally adjusted the number of H-2B workers available through the program in relation to current labor demands. There are approximately 100,000 H-2B applicants that are being denied entry into the US under the temporary visa program. This has caused a significant shortage of available workers in the H-2B pool shared by all participating businesses. It’s Magic Landscape & Design is one of more than 6,000 small businesses impacted.
Historic inflation, hand in hand with state-wide increases to the minimum wage, have also limited our ability to attract workers to starting positions. Despite the increased wages, many of our applicants turn down job offers due to the exponential cost of living increases necessitated by residing close to our workplace.
Navigating difficulties such as these are nothing out of the ordinary for a competitive business. However, It’s Magic Landscaping & Design is faced with two choices:
Naturally, we have opted for the latter option, as we cannot jeopardize our existing, loyal clients in the pursuit of new business.
In the meantime, we are actively monitoring economic conditions to assess when and how we can accept additional landscaping clients. As of writing this notice, we are optimistic that additional H-2B workers will become available this year. Should this occur, we will begin contacting customers on our waitlist.
If you are interested in landscaping services this year, please provide your information in the form below to be contacted in the event of increased availability. Your information will only be stored for this purpose, and will not be shared with third parties or used for marketing.
We are so grateful for the support of our communities, and look forward to continuing a standard of excellence in 2022. We sincerely regret the current state of our economy which has caused these challenges, and appreciate your understanding as we commit to maintaining our existing obligations.
In freedom,
Ginger & Shane
